Proposed DUI bill could add red mark to offender license

Stiff law changes proposed for DUI offenders

Recently, state lawmakers in Tennessee proposed a bill to assist in stopping drunk driving before it happens. Approving the bill would add another obstacle in getting alcohol into the hands of DUI offenders. It would make it illegal for a person charged with a DUI to be sold alcohol anywhere within the state.

The offender’s license would be marked with a red strip alerting sellers to identify prior offenders. If liquor stores sell alcohol to someone with this identifying marker, their establishment could face misdemeanor charges and fines.

Tennessee is a sovereign state when it comes to deciding the laws that dictate alcohol. Therefore, a bill such as this is completely legal to pass.
